Following the tragic, far-too-soon demise of Aldo, I was ready to write off Mary Worth for good. Really. (Although I was holding onto a faint ray of hope that the scenario proposed by a friend of mine would come to pass -- specifically, that Aldo had kidnapped Dr. Jeff at the airport and put HIM behind the wheel of that cliff-bound '87 Reliant K.)
But bless you, Karen Moy, for you have reached back into the past and revived the only character who could revive my flagging interest in your strip.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's the return of Tommy the Tweaker.
Yes, it's true -- Tommy has turned to the pages of the world's tiniest bible for solace while he finishes out his time in Federal Pound-Me-In-The-Ass Prison.
Unfortunately, tomorrow we find out that his only interest in the good book is as a source of rolling papers. He's smoked his way through Proverbs -- tomorrow, he digs in on Ecclesiastes.
I love the way he's wagging the Bible in Iris's face. Reminds me a little of the last time we saw the two of them together...
Since they were eating KFC at the time, I like to think that Tommy's threatening his mother with a spork in the image above, although it's clearly a fork.
A few new readers have come on board recently, and they've told me they're having a tough time following Mary. Here are a couple of links that'll get you up to speed:
- Daily Mary Worth strips
- Here's a bit of a primer I did a while back on enjoying Mare.
- And for the internet's number one source of Mary Worth snark, I highly recommend The Comics Curmudgeon. Even on days when Mary's not the featured subject, you can be sure that Josh's readers will bring the Mare-related-funny. Here's a link to Josh's Mary-specific entries.
